Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler wrap up the recording of their new album Wa set for a November 2019 release via Everest Records

Musician, composer and one of the most revered figures for today’s younger generation of experimental and alternative Arabic music scenes, Kamilya Jubran (text, oud & vocals), collaborates with long standing musical partner, composer, accomplished trumpet player and seasoned electronic musician Werner Hasler (trumpet & electronics).
In Wa (Arabic for and), their third album together as a duo, Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler continue to interrogate their listening and their expression, their research and their desires, to unravel a musical universe of possibilities; “a unison of timbres, cultures complementing, the complicity of verses, and modes and languages confronting each other” in the duo’s own way of communicating respective origins and contemporaneity. Lyrical, within a sound full of contrast and ornamentation, they pursue an expansion of their repertoire with imaginative interpretation and improvisation.
For this release via Swiss label Everest Records, Jubran and Hasler seek new sonic and phonetic territory, based on the wasla compound form found in the classical repertoire of Near Eastern music and in Western modern and improvised music; a suite of musical explorations within one composition. In the 45-minutes-long piece that makes up the full length album, they gradually unveil to us the tenants of this artistic dialogue, as they deepen a longstanding musical pact nurtured since 2002 based on the probing and opening up of musical modes and traditions. The chemistry between Jubran and Hasler’s exchange gives birth to a singular, original and extratemporal sound.
Interrogeant constamment leurs écoutes, leurs expressions, leurs recherches, leurs volontés, Kamilya Jubran et Werner Hasler dessinent un univers où tout est possible : l’union des timbres, la complémentarité des cultures, la connivence des phrases, la confrontation des modes et langages. Une manière de communiquer leurs racines et leurs présents respectifs.
Kamilya Jubran et Werner Hasler nous laissent progressivement entrevoir les tenants et les secrets de leur dialogue artistique. Ils approfondissent leur complicité musicale en se basant toujours sur le dialogue des traditions et des interrogations.
Inspirée des réminiscences de la musique classique arabe et des musiques et systèmes d' improvisation occidentales, enrichie des apports subtils de la culture électronique, l’alchimie de leurs échanges propose un son unique, intemporel: un voyage dans l’inouï sonore.
«Les sons de la suite forment une suite de sons. Les tons des sons qu’on entend en fonction du temps, se rendent -lentement ou prompt- tendrement dans le plan de cette suite de sons.»
Wa est un enchainement de mots associés aux images du quotidien, aux situations de nos vies actuelles, porté par un méristème musicale.
Une balade dans une onomatopée verbale et musicale. Des sensations appréhendées de l’abstraction.

في بحثهما عن اراضِ سمعية وصوتية جديدة، يعتمد الثنائي هيكل الوصلة-إحدى الكيانات الاساسيه في الموسيقى التقليديه العربيه ،كما في الموسيقات الاوروبيه المعاصره منها والمرتجلة. مؤلف واحد من ٤٥ دقيقه تتسع به مساحة الاداء والمخيله للثنائي وتستعرض لنا بعضا من خصوصيات وأسرار حوارهما الفني المستمرمنذ سنة ٢٠٠٢
